Marrakech to Agadir by road is 250 km and takes about 3 hours by car on the toll motorway. There is no train. CTM and Supratours coaches cover the route in roughly 3 h 30 to 4 h 30 for around 130-150 MAD at the time of writing, and a private car with driver costs €100 per sedan, door to door.

Marrakech to Agadir by road: the route in brief

One road does the work: the Marrakech-Agadir motorway. It leaves the city to the west, runs across the Haouz plain to Chichaoua, then turns south at Imintanoute and climbs through the western end of the High Atlas. This middle section is the scenic part: long viaducts, red and ochre hills, argan trees on the slopes around Argana. The road then drops to Amskroud and the Souss plain, and Agadir appears with the ocean behind it.

  • Distance: 250 km
  • Driving time: 3 h without long stops
  • Road: dual-carriageway toll motorway the whole way
  • Tolls: around 70 MAD for a car at the time of writing, already included in our transfer price
  • Train: none. The railway stops at Marrakech
  • Private transfer: €100 sedan, €120 minivan, €170 minibus, per vehicle, one way

The old national road through Imintanoute still exists and costs nothing. It is slower, busier with lorries and offers no real gain in scenery. Take the motorway.

How long does the drive take, realistically?

Three hours is an honest figure from the edge of Marrakech to the centre of Agadir. Add 15-20 minutes if you start from a riad deep in the medina, because cars cannot reach the door and you walk to the nearest gate. Add another 20 minutes if your hotel is at the far end of the Agadir bay or north of the city towards Taghazout.

Service areas with fuel, coffee and clean toilets are spaced along the motorway, the main ones near Chichaoua and Imintanoute. Most drivers stop once, around the halfway point. Fog and strong crosswinds sometimes slow traffic on the mountain section in winter mornings. The road itself stays open: it tops out at moderate altitude and snow is not an issue.

Bus from Marrakech to Agadir: CTM and Supratours

Both companies run several coaches a day, more in summer. The vehicles are air-conditioned with numbered seats, and luggage goes in the hold for a small extra charge. Journey time depends on the service: direct coaches take about 3 h 30, those with intermediate stops closer to 4 h 30. Fares sit around 130-150 MAD per person at the time of writing.

What the timetable does not show:

  • Station transfers at both ends. In Marrakech the Supratours terminal is beside the railway station in Gueliz, and CTM uses its own station. In Agadir the main bus station is inland, a petit taxi ride from the beachfront hotels.
  • Busy dates. July, August and Moroccan holiday weekends sell out. Book a day or two ahead.
  • No stop on request. The coach makes one fixed break.

For one or two people with light luggage and a flexible schedule, the bus is good value and comfortable enough. We say so plainly.

Grand taxi, hire car or flight?

Shared grand taxi. Six passengers, a seat price of around 100 MAD at the time of writing, departure when the car is full. It is quick once it leaves. It is also tight on space and unpredictable on timing, and the drop-off in Agadir is at a taxi rank, not at your hotel.

Hire car. The motorway is easy to drive and well signed. A rental makes sense if you plan to explore the Souss region for several days. For a simple one-way trip you pay the rental, the fuel, the tolls and often a one-way fee, and you start the holiday with paperwork.

Flight. The flight itself is short, but services are limited and once you add check-in and the ride from Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA), which lies about 25 km from the city, the road is as fast.

When a private transfer is the better choice

A private transfer from Marrakech to Agadir costs €100 for a sedan (1-3 passengers), €120 for a minivan (4-6) and €170 for a minibus (7-14). Tolls, fuel, taxes and luggage are included. The price is the same at night and the same in the other direction.

It earns its price in these cases:

  • You arrive at Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) and your hotel is in Agadir. The driver meets you at the arrivals exit with a name sign, and a delayed flight costs you nothing in waiting time. You are on the motorway ten minutes after leaving the terminal.
  • You are a group. Four people in a minivan pay €30 each. That is roughly twice a bus seat, for a clearly shorter journey once taxis and waiting are counted.
  • You carry bulky luggage. Golf bags and surfboards travel in the same vehicle. A minivan takes six suitcases.
  • You travel with small children. Child seats are free on request, and you choose when to stop.

You pay the driver in cash on arrival, in EUR, MAD, GBP or USD. There is no prepayment, and you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before pickup. To reserve, use the online booking form or WhatsApp.

Combining Agadir with Essaouira or Taghazout

Agadir is often one point of a triangle. Essaouira lies about three hours up the coast road, and many travellers go Marrakech, Essaouira, Agadir, then fly home from either end. Our guide on getting from Marrakech to Essaouira covers the first leg.

Surfers usually continue 20 km north of Agadir to Taghazout. If that is your base, book the car straight there: see how to plan a Marrakech to Taghazout surf transfer for board logistics and timing.
