A minibus with driver in Morocco makes sense from 7 passengers, the point where one car or minivan is no longer enough. A Mercedes Sprinter or similar seats 7 to 14 and costs a fixed price per vehicle: €35 from Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) to the medina, €130 to Essaouira, €170 to Agadir. With 12 on board, that is under €3, about €11 and about €14 per person.

What a minibus with driver in Morocco actually is

In Morocco, licensed tourist transport runs three vehicle sizes. A sedan takes 1 to 3 passengers with 3 suitcases. A minivan such as a Mercedes Vito or V-Class takes 4 to 6 with 6 suitcases. A minibus, usually a Mercedes Sprinter or similar, takes 7 to 14. You can see all three on our vehicle fleet page.

The minibus is private. It carries only your group, leaves when you are ready and goes to your address. It is not a shared shuttle with other passengers and several hotel stops. The price is for the vehicle, not per seat, so it stays the same whether you are 8 or 14.

How groups travel in Morocco: the options compared

OptionCapacityStrengthsLimits
Several petit taxis3 passengers eachCheap for short city ridesCity limits only, group split across 3 or 4 cars, little luggage space
Grand taxisUp to 6 eachAvailable at ranks, run between townsFare negotiated per car, two cars needed from 7 people
Intercity coachAny group sizeLowest price per person on main routesFixed timetable, station to station, seats may sell out

For a group on a tight budget with flexible timing, the coach or train wins on price. For a group that wants to stay together, carry luggage and arrive at a hotel door, the minibus is the practical choice.

What a group transfer costs

These are our fixed one-way minibus prices from Marrakech Airport or any Marrakech hotel. Tolls, fuel, taxes and luggage are included. The return costs the same, and the price does not change at night.

RouteDistance and timeMinibus (7-14)Per person with 12Two minivans
Marrakech Medina6 km, 15 min€35under €3€40
Imlil70 km, 1 h 30€85about €7€110

Fes530 km, 5 h 30€400about €33€600

Two points stand out. First, one minibus is cheaper than two minivans on every route. Second, the per-person cost on long routes comes close to public transport once you add the taxis to and from the stations. Prices for all other destinations are on our full list of transfer routes.

When a minibus is the right choice

  • Airport arrivals for 7 or more. One driver meets the whole group at the arrivals exit with a name sign. Nobody negotiates three taxis after a flight. The group transfer from Marrakech Airport to the medina takes about 15 minutes.
  • Weddings and events. Guests at a Palmeraie villa or an Agafay camp need to arrive and leave together, often late at night.
  • Trekking groups. A party heading for Toubkal travels with duffel bags and boots. The minibus transfer from Marrakech to Imlil drops you at the trailhead village in 1 h 30.
  • Surf and golf trips. Boards and golf bags fill a boot fast. Tell us what you carry so we plan the space.
  • Destinations without a train. The private transfer from Marrakech to Essaouira saves a group the trip to the bus station and the wait.
  • Families travelling together. Three generations in one vehicle, with child seats fitted free on request. See our guide to child car seats on transfers in Morocco.

When you do not need one

A minibus is not always the answer. With 4 to 6 people, a minivan is cheaper and easier to manoeuvre: €20 against €35 for the airport to the medina. With 15 or more, you need two vehicles or a coach, so ask us for a quote by WhatsApp. For short hops inside Marrakech, two or three petit taxis cost less. And if every euro counts on a long route, the coach is cheaper per head, provided the timetable suits you.

Practical points for group transfers

Luggage

Fourteen passengers with fourteen large suitcases is the limit of what one minibus can carry. Give the number of bags when you book, including pushchairs, boards and instruments. If the load is too large, we will say so and suggest a second vehicle.

Medina drop-offs

No vehicle enters the lanes of the Marrakech medina, and a minibus needs more room than a car. The driver stops at the nearest gate or car park to your riad. Ask the riad to send someone with a handcart for the bags.

Timing

Groups move slowly. Allow 15 to 20 minutes to load at the airport and add a break on any drive over two hours. Our chart of realistic driving times between Moroccan cities helps you set a departure time. Fifteen minutes of waiting are included at hotel pickups, and waiting after a delayed flight is free.

Paying and tipping

You pay the driver on arrival, in cash, in euros, dirhams, pounds or dollars. Collect the money within the group beforehand so one person settles. Tipping is optional. For amounts, read tipping drivers in Morocco.

How to book a group transfer

Send the date, flight number, passenger count, number of bags and destination address. You receive the driver's name and number on WhatsApp before pickup. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before. Use the online booking form and choose the minibus as your vehicle.
